Hosted by the UBC’s NBK Institute of Mining Engineering the Mining Studies Institute is made up of one, two and three day classroom courses.

The courses, delivered by industry and academic specialists, are open to all. However, the content of the courses is designed to ensure students registered in the UBC Certificate of Mining Studies program will have adequate courses available to meet their study plans and schedules specifically in the areas of:

MSI offers a diverse selection of Short Courses in one, two and three day time periods. Topics include:

  • Exploration – Geology – Reserves
  • Geotechnics – Rock Mechanics – Hydrology
  • Environment – Health – Safety
  • Mining Methods - Mine Planning
  • Management – Risk – Financial
  • Mineralogy - Mineral Processing

Each classroom course is linked with appropriate online courses provided by EduMine. It is strongly recommended that students not in the Certificate program register and complete the online component of the class. This learning component contributes to the classroom experience and allows the work to be counted towards a UBC Certificate in Mining Studies at a later date, should that become an option. See Certificate Criteria and Fees for a cost breakdown of EduMine courses.
