Mining 3rd year student Levi Engels on a summer internship with Geering Up UBC Engineering & Science for Kids. The Northern Outreach Program provided fly-in workshops with the Tsay Keh Dene First Nation and Kwadacha Nation communities located roughly 500 kilometres north of Prince George.
The workshops were extremely well-received, and with the support of the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering, Geering Up plans to deliver them again to both communities in June, 2017. Following the workshops, an additional week long STEM camp is planned for students in grades 7-8, and will take place at an out-of- town camp within both bands’ traditional territory. The camp is available to students from both Tsay Keh Dene School and Aatse Davie School, both of which have been working closely with Geering Up in the development of the camp.
