Turning waste into building products
A UBC researcher is working on a way to turn carbon dioxide into cement.
“We can actually use it for making bricks and blocks and cement,” said Michael Hitch, professor at UBC’s Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering. “Think about that. We could be producing eco-cement. We are taking CO2, sequestering it, locking it up in a mineral forever, and then we are making an industrial product. Our houses will be basically blocks of C02, which is kind of cool in my mind.”
