Dr. Davide Elmo’s student Beverly Yang won the 2020 CGS Student Competition

We are pleased to announce that Beverly Yang won the 2020 Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) Student Competition in the Undergraduate Report (Individual) category for their report titled “Questioning the use of RQD in rock engineering and its implications for rock engineering design” completed as part of Beverly’s 4-month NSERC USRA at UBC in 2019 working with Dr. Davide Elmo. The report was also published as a conference publication in the proceedings of the 54th US Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium.

The award includes a monetary prize of $1000, framed certificate, one year’s membership in the CGS and free registration for the annual CGS conference. Beverly will start a MASc at UBC NBK Institute of Mining Engineering in September of 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Davide Elmo. Congratulations Beverly!
