Dr. Maria Holuszko has been awarded a Fellowship with Engineers Canada. These fellowships honour individuals who have given noteworthy service to the profession through their work with either Engineers Canada or its provincial and territorial engineering regulators. Dr Holuszko has been a member of the Board of Examiners at Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) for last five years and has been a strong supporter of activities of its Women in Engineering and Geoscience Division.
In the picture Dr Holuszko and Dr Amit Kumar, a post-doctoral research fellow, are testing the use of a shaking table, a device commonly used to separate heavy minerals from light minerals, to separate the light non-metal (plastic) fraction from the heavier metal fraction of small electronic devices. Efficient separation of the plastics in electronic devices will be essential for any sustainable metal recycling process.
