### Overview

The Mastersizer 2000 uses laser diffraction to determine particle size distributions. The current laboratory procedure uses wet dispersion for suitable materials, with a preliminary sieve to remove particles larger than 500 µm.

## Sample information

| Item | Current guidance |
|---|---|
| Sample form | Powder, suitable for wet dispersion |
| Typical quantity | Approximately 0.5 g may be sufficient, depending on material |
| Pre-screening | Analysis of the fraction passing 500 µm under current laboratory procedure |
| Dispersion | Water where compatible; disclose water-soluble or reactive materials |
| Reported data | Particle size distribution and selected statistics, subject to analysis scope |
