UBC Mining’s Industry Advisory Committee Opens Applications for New Members
The Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering is pleased to announce that the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) is now accepting applications for new volunteer members for a two‑year renewable term beginning in mid‑2026.
The IAC is a long‑standing advisory group composed of alumni and industry leaders from across British Columbia’s mining and minerals sector. Established to help guide the department’s academic, strategic, and community-focused priorities, the committee plays a crucial role in ensuring that UBC Mining continues to deliver relevant, forward‑looking programs that serve both students and the broader industry.
An opportunity to shape the future of mining education and research
Members of the IAC provide perspective, guidance, and advice on a range of topics including curriculum, research directions, student experience, equity and inclusion, industry partnerships, and departmental strategy. The committee’s input helps inform decisions that impact the growth of the department and the pipeline of future talent entering B.C.’s mining and mineral processing sectors.
The IAC meets three times per year — typically in September, January, and May — with each meeting followed by an informal social session with students, faculty, and committee members. IAC members may also be asked to support short‑term initiatives or sub‑committees aligned with their expertise or interests.
Seeking diverse experience and perspectives
This year, the IAC is particularly interested in individuals with experience or interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Indigenous or community relations
- Education or research within engineering or the resource sector
- Graduate engineering education (MEng, MASc, or PhD)
- Senior-level industry leadership (30+ years’ experience)
As a volunteer advisory body, the committee welcomes alumni, professionals, and leaders who are passionate about supporting UBC Mining’s academic mission and strengthening its connections with B.C.’s mining community.
