AJ Gunson completed his B.A.Sc, M.A.Sc., and Ph.D. in Mining and Mineral Process Engineering at UBC, in addition to a B.A. (Hons.) in International Relations at Mount Allison University. He has over 20 years of experience in the mining industry ranging from researching artisanal and small­ scale mining in remote corners of the world, working on historic dredges with Parks Canada in the Yukon, to designing and commissioning some of the world’s largest concentrators. AJ has worked for multinational engineering and mining corporations, multilateral organizations including the UN and World Bank, as well as smaller companies and NGOs. He was an instructor of mineral processing and the director of the NBK Institute’s Master of Engineering Program for 5 years. His main research interests relate to plant design, mine water and energy efficiency, and mining and sustainability.
