Biography

  • President Sonal Mining Technology.
  • 50 years of experience in the mining industry, with the last 20 years focused on caving from design through implementation to operation.
  • Advisor to LKAB’s 25 Mtpa SLC Kiruna Mine on deep bulk mining.
  • Ongoing involvement as an independent technical advisor to PTFI’s Grasberg operations, including the DMLZ (80,000tpd) panel cave, the GBC (130,000tpd) panel cave and the proposed KL cave.  Tasks include developing and implementing cave management and ground control plans and assisting with cave performance technology.
  • Chair of Newmont’s Cave Mining Advisory Panel reporting through to Exco.
  • Technical reviews for Codeclo’s Chuquicamata and Teniente cave operations.
  • Technical review of caving operations for Franco Nevada.
  • Technical advice to several small companies, including Bluestone, Avanco, TMM, KSM on aspects of underground mining.
  • Technical advisor to Merdeka Copper and Gold on their Tujuh Bukit project in Indonesia.
  • Strategic reviews of the CAPEX and OPEX of the proposed cave for a tier 1 mining company.
  • Strategic review of underground technology for Vale, Sudbury operations.
  • Have participated in strategic and technical risk reviews of both brownfield and greenfield projects, including Barrick’s proposed caving project in Argentina/Chile, Eldorado Gold’s underground project in Greece, Debswana’s proposed transition to underground and Neves Corvo in Portugal.
  • Have served on technical review boards (Oyu Tolgoi, Resolution, Bingham).
  • Managed technology development projects, including rapid development pilot, sulphide leach trial, and cave design tools.
  • Director of Entrees Resources.
  • Director CIMRE; not-for-profit mining research organization.
  • Chairman of the Advosiry Board for the Callio Project, Finland.
  • Chair of the University of British Columbia’s International Caving Research Network.
