Course Registration Information
Registration Appointment Details
- Registration will take place in June and July 2025. You will receive an email from Enrolment Services (ES) 1-2 weeks before your registration period opens. The email will contain details about your registration appointment.
- Your registration appointment is based on your academic average (cumulative UBC average for continuing students, admission average for new students) and your class standing.
- Appointments are in Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Double-check your registration time, especially if you are outside of the province or country.
How to Register for Courses
Platform
- You will use Workday Student System for registration.
- The course schedule is available and can be viewed in workday.
- You can access the Workday Tutorials to familiarize yourself with the system, and how to register in your courses.
Mining Timetables Changes
- Timetables are now a visual tool only (not for direct course registration). You must register for each course individually.
Planning Ahead
- Use the STT visual and course roadmap to create saved schedules (similar to the previous worklist in SSC).
- A link to the course descriptions can be viewed here
- Separate saved schedules are required for Winter Term 1 and Winter Term 2.
Note: It is best to register using a web browser for optimal functionality, as the Workday mobile app does not support the full registration process.
Complementary Studies
The Complementary Studies portion of the Mining Engineering Program is determined by the Faculty of Applied Science. Students needing clarification on which courses are acceptable should consult Engineering Student Services in the ground floor of the Kaiser Building.
As a Mining Engineering student, you must take five categories of complementary studies:
- Professional Ethics (APSC 450)
- Communication (3 credits of first year English and 2nd year technical comm course APSC 201)
- Engineering Economics (Mine 396)
- Impact of Engineering on Society, Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship (3 credits)
- Humanities and Social Sciences (6 credits)
Many of these courses are already identified in the Mining Engineering curriculum (like APSC 201, APSC 450 and MINE 396) and students need to register in them. However, there are two categories of complementary studies for Mining Engineering students where they have some choice:
- Impact of Engineering on Society, Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship (3 credits) is a restricted list of courses that can be found here
- Humanities and Social Science electives (6 credits) is a flexible requirement with a wide range of possible courses that can be taken. All currently approved courses that meet this requirement can be found here
If a complementary studies elective that you are currently taking or have taken is on the list of approved courses but isn't being mapped to your Workday APR, please contact Engineering Academic Services and cc undergraduate@mining.ubc.ca
