A $20,000 award is offered annually by Goldcorp to a female student enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science program in Mining Engineering. Goldcorp is a senior gold producer based out of Vancouver. The company has six mines and four development projects, employing over 15,000 people across the Americas. The award is made on the recommendation of the head of the Department of Mining Engineering.
Eligibility: Female students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science program in Mining Engineering.
Selection Criteria: The recipient of this award will demonstrate academic excellence, disruptive thinking, and leadership skills inspiring the next generation of global mining innovators.
James (Jim) O'Rourke Scholarship in Mining Engineering ($19,050)

Scholarships totalling $19,050 have been made available through an endowment established in honour of James (Jim) O’Rourke (B.A.Sc. 1964), P.Eng., OBC, and supported by friends, family and colleagues. Mr. O’Rourke is the founder of Copper Mountain Mining Corp and played a vital role in many prominent global mining projects in his fifty-year career. He served as president and director of numerous public and private companies and his contributions to mining and business have been recognized with honors including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mining Association of B.C. and induction into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. Jim received the Order of British Columbia (OBC) in 2011 for his contributions to mine building in B.C. The scholarships are made on the recommendation of the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering.
Eligibility: Bachelor of Applied Science students specializing in Mining Engineering.
Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to students studying Mineral Processing.
James Marlow Scholarship in Mining Engineering ($18,600)

Eligibility: Second- and third-year undergraduate students majoring in Mining Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science. Students in co-op studies are eligible to receive the award.
Selection Criteria: Mining engineering students who aspire to become industry leaders through careers in mine operations and management. Strong leadership abilities are critical to advancement in the mining industry, therefore, candidates must have demonstrated leadership through active participation in extracurricular activities in high school, the community, the university and/or sports.
Harold A. Steane Memorial Award ($5,000)

Eligibility: Students entering either of the last two years of the mineral process undergraduate program.

Professor Andrew Andy Mular Memorial Award in Mining Engineering ($3,850)

Awards totalling $3,850 have been made available through an endowment established by friends, family and colleagues in memory of Professor Andrew Andy Mular (1930- 2020). Professor Mular (B.Sc., M.Sc.) joined UBC as a Professor of Mineral Process Engineering in 1972 and served as Head of what was then known as the Mining and Mineral Processing Department (MMP) from 1986 to 1993. He retired as a Professor Emeritus in 1996. Professor Mular was the recipient of the Walter Gage Award from UBC in 1984 and the Robert H. Richards Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration in 1990 for his work to further mineral beneficiation. He was credited for a series of publications on plant design, published by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME). He was a valued contributor to his field, known for his many presentations at a wide variety of mining-related conferences. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering.
Eligibility: Bachelor of Applied Science students majoring in Mining Engineering.
Selection Criteria: Students who have demonstrated an interest in the mining industry and breadth in their interests through educational, extracurricular, or leadership activities.
Lt. Eric Soulis Ditmars Memorial Scholarship ($3,200)

Westmin Resources Limited - Dr. G. M. Furnival Scholarship ($3,200)

A scholarship of $3,200 has been endowed by Westmin Resources Limited, to honour the contributions of Dr. G. M. Furnival to the development of the mineral industry. This award is made on the basis of both scholarship and demonstrated interest in the mining industry, on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Mining and Mineral Process Engineering or Director of Geological Engineering. The award will normally alternate between the two departments.
Eligibility: Students in the second or higher year of Mining and Mineral Process Engineering or Geological Engineering. Candidates must be proceeding to a degree in either Mining and Mineral Process Engineering with specialization in Mining Engineering, or in Geological Engineering with specialization in Mining Geology.
Selection Criteria: Students who demonstrated interest in the mining industry.
Newmont Mining Corporation David Long Memorial Award ($3,000)

ConeTec Women in Geotechnical Engineering Award ($2,500)

Two $2,500 awards are offered annually by the ConeTec Education Foundation and the Woeller Family Foundation. ConeTec Investigations was founded in 1985 by Mining Engineering alumnus David Woeller (M.Eng. 1986). Headquartered in Richmond, B.C. and with offices throughout North and South America, the company provides full-service geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation for the infrastructure, mining, energy, environmental and construction industries. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science.
Eligibility: Second and third-year female Bachelor of Applied Science students in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
Selection Criteria: Students who have demonstrated leadership and an interest in pursuing geotechnical field work and field research.
